Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR)

Our community-based rehabilitation strategy (CBR) is a model of psychosocial support and community development aimed at social inclusion and the active participation of people with disabilities and / or victims of the armed conflict, from a differential, territorial rights approach, through five empowerment components: sociopolitical - health - education - labor inclusion, productivity and income generation - culture, recreation and sports.

How do we do it?

Our team from the Special Projects Unit, in alliance with the different governments, mayors and/or international cooperation entities, reaches the different populations of the country to develop and implement CBR social innovation projects in the framework of established norms. We tailor solutions to the territorial, collective and individual needs of the targeted population, in order to generate processes of self-management and promotion of individual and collective leadership.

The building of infrastructure for the formation of a picturesque chicken shed, with seed capital delivered to one of the approved production projects formulated in the rural area of the municipality of Miranda, Cauca. With the delivery of supplies for construction, the participant, a person with a disability, also received the chickens to begin of his lovely project.

Awareness workshop “I´m an inclusive civil official”, aimed at the professional, administrative, technical and operational staff of the Mayor's Office of Anapoima, Cundinamarca. The activity “Put yourself in my shoes” has the purpose of simulating the barriers that are generated when providing some attention or guidance to the population with disabilities, to achieve a process of reflection and awareness.

The participants from the municipality of Apulo, Cundinamarca, recognized and georeferenced different sectors and institutions in their territory, for the construction of care routes for the population with disabilities. This theme is part of the socio-political component. It is important to mention that the participants, who attend the “Community Based Rehabilitation” (CBR) workshops, are people with disabilities, families and / or caregivers, community leaders, among others.

Parents and caregivers from the municipality of Florida, Nariño, participants in the CBR training process developed homemade or artisanal support elements, which were created in the Basic Tools workshop: “Caring for the Caregiver”. On this occasion, they made an orientation pole with PVC tube, rubber thread and bicycle handlebars.

Official contribution of seed capital for productive units in the municipality of Tangua, Nariño, in 2018. The projects focused on the construction of infrastructure for chicken sheds. The population consisted of caregivers and families of people with disabilities and victims of the armed conflict who were part of the training process within the income generation component of the CBR strategy.
